The Love and Poetry Tour

I remember when I was about 7 years old I wrote my first poem. It was a poem about love. I think I still have it somewhere actually, but I won't share. (I don't want to embarrass myself right now).Well, since then one of my favorite things to do is sit in a quiet corner in the book store and read poetry books. Now with social media, I have it at my fingertips at any time of the day. That being said, several months ago I stumbled across a quote on instagram from a poet named Just Mike. It said "Never underestimate a woman's ability to fall out of love. All she needs is time, distance, and somebody willing to help her put back the pieces again". I went onto his page and did some research on him. I think what I liked the most was that he's fairly new to this art and his vision is HUGE! I love that! Watching people grow while they're in their element is so amazing to me.

When I heard that he was doing a 25 city tour in 35 days I knew I wanted to attend. When I found out it would be next door to me in Toronto (basically my 2nd home) it was a done deal! I would go and blog about it. The first thing I learned after arriving at the Studio Bar was that Just Mike is part of a trio on this tour. It's Just Mike, Vision and Jamarr Hall. They headline the show together and individually. I also love the fact that they put out a call to local poets. Then, they chose 2 to do their thing as the opening acts. I really enjoyed Trevlyn Kay's gorgeous singing in between her spoken word, and Patrick C. Walters had everyones attention. Another thing I liked is this trio (Mike, Vision, Jamarr) was very hands on the whole time. In fact, Vision checked me in and Mike showed me to my seat. Each of them MC'd and gave us everything. I'm sure all the ladies (and a few men) would agree.

I have to admit I was super nervous sitting in the front. I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know if I would hold back due to my shyness and try to remain stoic, or, if I'd cry because something got to me. Fortunately I found a very happy medium and I laughed, clapped, gave serious face and everything! You can feel that these guys want to encourage women to do better for themselves. To be happy and live a life they deserve. They sprinkled in some very specific experiences as well. I found myself taking notes and trying to remember quotes (haha I rhymed). One of my favorite parts of the show was when all 3 would perform together. Just Mike and Vision would take turns speaking, and Jamarr would strum the guitar and sing. I definitely see this turning into a play, movie, etc.

I also enjoyed speaking to them individually for quite a while after the show. Getting to hear how this all started and where they plan on going with it was all very exciting. I found out that all of this started from a very bad situation. A nurse encouraged Mike to write out his feelings in a journal after a suicide attempt. Now, he is a poet, author, speaker and president of his own publishing company. If you're happily single, in a great relationship or not, this is definitely a show to see. The future for these 3 friends is beyond bright. I'm looking forward to all the amazingness to come.

I've attached some links under each poet;) Enjoy!

Vintage ties

Last week a friend and I spoke about spending less on clothes (even doing some vintage shopping) so we can do more traveling. That conversation motivated me to pull out these vintage boots. My mom got them for me over 3 years ago and I'm just now wearing them. I'm still working on that(saving my clothes for no good reason). At first I didn't know how to wear these. You can tie the straps up your leg however you want. It's like 5 different boots in 1! Don't you love that? Since its warm out I wore them low and loosely tied. A romper and fringed cover up completed this bohemian look. Boots with shorts has always been one of my favorite looks and I've finally tried it. I'm going to continue to go shopping in my own closet! I have some great pieces. So, Europe HERE.I.COME!

Lacy summer day!

Happy July 1st! I figured now is as good a time as any to wear this lacy cream top. I promised myself; when it got hot I would pick one day and actually NOT wear black. So, I decided to finally stop skipping over this cute doily looking top and wear it over my comfy flared jeans. It definitely felt fun wearing something I would not normally wear. The whole day I felt like I had a 70's vibe going on. I was saying things like;'chill, be cool' and 'can you dig it'. Ha! (My dad still talks like that sometimes). I'm not sure how many times I'll stray away from wearing black, but, I will say I felt much cooler in this light and airy combo. Also, I walked with a little more pep in my step!

The Bee's knees

If you ask me on a scale from 1-10 how afraid of Bees I am, I'd say 27! Ever since my mom left me strapped in my car seat to run away from a bee that flew in our car, I have been deathly afraid. Even though I've been known to run into traffic, hide under restaurant tables and run screaming into the arms of a complete stranger, (all in an effort to get away from them) I can't imagine a world without bees. So, when I saw this beautiful T shirt in J.Crew I had to get it. I had no idea of all the things we'd be without if bees weren't here. I nearly screamed when I saw French Fries on the list. I exercise so I can have fries!! Something needs to change! I guess what I'm trying to say is: Go get one of these lovely linen blend T's. Not only is it comfortable, but 50% of the price goes towards saving the bees:)  I'm still afraid of these black and yellow buzzing creatures, and I'll still run away like a bad out a hell when I see them. Only while I'm running, I'll be smiling and saying thanks for the french fries and pretty flowers.

Classic cool

Classic cool for me means; a crisp white button down, leather pants and sneakers. I could wear this combination all the time. With Spring finally on its way I love all the lighter clothing choices I have. So, on my recent visit to the Baltimore Harbor I decided to be classic and cool. I've been looking for the perfect white button down and was so surprised to see how expensive they are. I ran into Old Navy the other day and snagged this perfect one for a steal! I pulled out my favorite leather leggings and laced up my new kicks. I have super narrow feet so I'm always beyond excited to find a pair of sneakers that fit me nice and snug(no more loosey goosey);) I had a great time at the harbor with my sisters and look forward to more of Spring!

Black on Black on Black

I think we can all agree; there is no better color combination than black on black on black. It's chic, edgy, elegant and slimming ALL at the same time! Perfect, right? Today was sunny but still freezing cold, so I piled on this monochromatic look with different textures. I started with these drool-worthy fringed out leather boots. I mean I literally check on them at night, I love them so much!:)This double breasted belled sleeve coat topped off everything nicely. I'm in love with the little sweet ruffle on the sleeves too. With so much beautiful detail between the sleeves and boots, I went with simple leather-like leggings. This color combo is so easy and works no matter what you're doing.
